1. Applications & Programme Status 4 Questions
Are applications for the Youth IGF Nepal Fellowship currently open?
No, fellowship applications are officially closed. As displayed on the official application channel: “Thank you for your interest to join Youth IGF Nepal 2026. But we are no longer accepting fellowship applications.”
The selection committee has concluded reviewing submissions, and the 7 selected provincial fellows have been announced on the Youth IGF Nepal 2026 Fellowship page.
Is there any fee to apply for or accept the fellowship?
No. There is no fee to apply for, or to accept, the Youth IGF Nepal Fellowship.
How are fellowship applicants evaluated and shortlisted?
Applications are reviewed by the selection committee, which considers each applicant’s motivation, interest in Internet governance and digital policy, potential to contribute to discussions, and provincial representation, so that voices from across Nepal are included.
When will applications open for the next cohort?
The call for the next cohort will be announced on the Youth IGF Nepal website and official social media channels ahead of the next forum. Follow us to be notified when applications open.
2. Eligibility & Criteria 4 Questions
Why is the fellowship reserved for individuals residing outside the Kathmandu Valley?
Most national policy discussions in Nepal naturally occur in the capital, making it difficult and expensive for provincial youth to participate. The Fellowship exists specifically to bridge this regional digital divide, providing travel and accommodation funding so candidates from Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati (rural), Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim can participate equitably.
Do I need a background in Computer Science or Law to qualify?
No prior experience or specialized degrees in Internet governance are required. Fellows come from diverse disciplines including humanities, education, business, community advocacy, and medicine. Curiosity regarding how digital tools impact human lives is what matters most.
What is the eligibility age range for fellows?
Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the open call, holding Nepali citizenship.
Are past fellows eligible to apply again?
To maximize capacity-building opportunities for new young leaders across Nepal, previous fellows are not eligible for a second fellowship. However, fellowship alumni are actively invited to serve as session moderators, organizing committee volunteers, and mentors.
3. Travel, Accommodation & Fellow Inclusions 3 Questions
What expenses are covered for selected provincial fellows?
Selected provincial fellows receive full logistical sponsorship:
- Transit: Reimbursed inter-district bus or domestic airfare (as approved by the secretariat) from their provincial home district to Kathmandu and back.
- Accommodation: Hotel lodging in Lalitpur/Kathmandu during official event days.
- Meals: Breakfast, official working lunches, and refreshments during forum proceedings.
- Delegation kit: Official materials, delegate badges, and policy reading documents.
How is travel reimbursement processed?
Fellows coordinate directly with the Youth IGF Nepal logistics team before booking. Reimbursements are processed upon submission of original travel tickets, boarding passes, and valid photo ID verification during the forum.
What should fellows bring to Kathmandu?
Fellows should carry:
- Original government photo ID (Nepali Citizenship card or National ID card).
- A laptop or tablet for interactive workshops and collaborative policy drafting.
- Original receipts/tickets for transit reimbursement.
4. Certification & Post-Fellowship Opportunities 3 Questions
Will fellows receive an official certificate of completion?
Yes. All fellows who successfully participate in the preparatory briefings, official proceedings, and feedback synthesis will receive an official, verified Youth IGF Nepal Fellowship Certificate recognizing their participation and provincial representation.
How does the fellowship contribute to Nepal’s Youth Declaration?
Fellows bring perspectives from their provinces into the forum’s sessions and feedback synthesis. These inputs help shape the youth messages and recommendations that Youth IGF Nepal shares with national and global Internet governance processes.
Are fellows eligible for regional or international opportunities?
Fellowship alumni receive strong consideration and recommendation support when applying for regional programmes like the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) fellowships, Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG), NetMission Asia, ICANN NextGen, and the UN Global IGF Youth Tracks.
